Another great GOOD NEWS TRIATHLON PEI STORY

Two members of the Triathlon PEI Club did well in the World Multisport Championships in Pontevedra, Spain this past weekend.

Over 3500 athletes from 44 countries worldwide participated in a variety of multisports.

Brian Deveau, of Souris, and Dan McCarthy, Summerside, competed in the popular sprint duathlon, along with over 900 other athletes. The sprint duathlon is comprised of a 5km run, 20km bike, and 2.5km run.

The run legs of the duathlon ran through the hilly streets of Pontevedra, while the bike leg was an out and back course with a challenging climb up a mountainside leading to an exhilarating speedy ride back.

In his first world competition, Deveau, finished 40th in the 65-69 age group with a time of 1:35:04, good for sixth place among Canadians in his age group.

McCarthy finished fifth on the run legs, sixth on the bike leg, and 7th overall in the 75-79 age group. His time of 1:28:24 placed him as top North American in his age group.

Deveau, McCarthy and a few other competitors qualified in the Subaru of Charlottetown TriLobster in Summerside last summer. The TriLobster is coming up on July 27 this year.
